Tambacounda is one of the regions of Senegal most affected by emigration. This is due to its geographical location and its border position.
In my region, the youth are more and more exposed to this issue that affects our entire population.
The main causes of emigration are the increasingly difficult living conditions and the search for work.
In the course of my research, I have had conversations with returning migrants. Some of them are my friends and have told me about their journey. The road to Europe is difficult. Many people lose their lives in the desert or in the depths of the sea. However, this is not an obstacle for the younger generation. They are prepared to face the risks to reach their goals.
One country, Libya, draws our attention in particular. Libya shelters many immigrants who try to cross the Mediterranean Sea to reach the West. They are victims of racism, xenophobia, imprisonment, rape, slavery etc.
We must urgently look for solutions to combat this issue. Because it concerns us all. I believe education, reintegration and self-employment should be the basis of our policies to combat this emigration.
